Solr Cloud Administrator / Database Administrator

Job Description:

The Solr Cloud Administrator is a key member of the technology team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Cloud Operations. The primary goal of this position is to design and administer a reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient production search cluster and related databases. This is a take-charge, get your hands dirty engineering position requiring technical prowess working on large-scale search clusters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for scalability, availability, reliability and efficiency of back-end search cluster and databases
  • Performance tuning and automated scaling of Solr clusters
  • Disaster recovery for Search Indexes and relational databases
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by senior management



  • 5 years of hands-on, working experience on Solr, Elastic Search, or other Lucene-based search technologies in production environments
  • Experience with Solr Cloud, Zookeeper and Docker
  • Experience configuring and performance tuning Solr Cloud clusters
  • Experience with JVM tuning. Understanding of Java Garbage Collection, Multi-threading
  • Experience with Java stack traces, debugging
  • Integrating Solr with monitoring systems managed by the Cloud Operations team
  • Experience with a variety of database technologies traditional databases (SQL Server or PostgreSQL), and horizontally distributed databases (Cassandra or HBase), and hosted cloud PAAS databases (Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, or Azure's CosmoDB)
  • Experience with setting up, configuring, and managing RDBMS and data stores such as Solr, Casandra, etc.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of Solr internals desired
  • Experience with Github, Jira, Confluence, desired
  • Experience with high security FedRamp / CJIS audited infrastructure desired
  • Experience with Solr’s LTR modules


  • Occasional travel between our Arizona and California offices may be needed

  • Bachelor's degree in technology, business or related field
